Dress Code for Women in Iran

The most frequently asked questions for travelers is about the dress code in Iran. We will give you some information for women and men to know about the dress code before traveling to Iran. Iran is a country with respecting Islamic rules including “Hijab”. However, such rules are not observed strictly, especially for tourists and foreigners. Iran holds many surprises for visitors, in terms of both weather and clothing.

Tourists are mostly encouraged to dress conservatively when going through the Middle East, but Iranian women are very modest in wearing their Veil or Hijab, and you cannot see its equivalent anywhere in the Middle East. completely forget about the playing by media. General guide

1. Colors

It’s false belief that ladies confront constraint in the color of their clothing. This is absolute nonsense. There’s definitely no restriction in color with regards to the clothing standard.  In case you are into colors, bring them along. They are most likely the best idea during summer.

2. Manteau                                                                                                  

Most of the women prefer to wear a manteau which can be long, short, tight, or loose, and in different colors.

2. Tunics and Cardigans

Tunics are an incredible choice for summer trips to Iran. If they cover up your bum, you are good to go. In case you do not have a tunic, you can choose a long tank top that is layered up with a light cardigan. You may even have a dress that can be paired with skinny jeans.

3. Scarf & Hair Covering

7.Skirts: You can wear a long skirt or a midi skirt with leggings. Short skirts are not acceptable.

8.Jeans: Tight jeans would be acceptable as long as a long shirt or cardigan covers the behind. However, it is not advised to wear them in more religious towns in Iran.

9.Leggings: They are very common in Iran and they come in different colors. Like tight jeans

10.Stockings: They should be avoided because they are transparent. Generally, anything that is see-through must be avoided.

11.Tourists are not by any means expected to wear chador in Iran, except in holy shrines and some mosques, which will be given to them at the entrance.

Dress Code in Iran for Men

 While men do not have as much restriction as women on Iranian dress code, what is against the norm (not religion) in Iran is for a man to wear shorts and sleeveless shirts. Men wear such apparel at home and seeing a man wearing them outside the house is very abnormal. Therefore, longer sleeved shirts and long pants, that cover the knees, are the best clothing choices for men travelling in Iran. 

  Interesting Points:

1. numbers of cities in Iran such as Kerman, Yazd, Kermanshah, and Kashan are conservative, so lower the tone cautiously.

2. mosques and shrines need full covering. Chadors are often available for tourists on the site or you can get yourself one at a very affordable price.
